Anastasia Samoylova’s FloodZone
According to the publisher, Steidl, Anastasia Samoloyva’s FloodZone is a “photographic account of life on the climatic knife-edge of the southern United States…Subtle and often unsettling images capture the mood of waiting, knowing the climate is changing, but living with it” (back cover). Both dramatic and descriptive, this explanation of the book leaves the door open to interpretation, and is a useful starting point for a series of questions, not only about photographic representations of climate change and the visibility of its consequences, but also about the possibilities of visual anthropology and sociology when taking a documentary photographic approach.
